Authorities in Samut Sakhon have arrested a Burmese man described as a major figure in the local migrant community after he was caught selling methamphetamine to compatriots at the province’s central shrimp market.

The arrest was part of the “No Drugs ~ No Dealers” operation, launched under the anti-narcotics policy of provincial governor Naris Niramaiwong and provincial police chief Pol Maj Gen Theeradej Athipakgul.

Led by Deputy Governor Banphot Chantharawong, Muang Samut Sakhon police chief Pol Col Pichetpong Chaengkhaikom, Pol Lt Col Sophat Thonntip, and district official Khanung Thongthiang, officers moved in on 25-year-old “Min”, a Myanmar national, as he conducted a drug deal inside the bustling market in Mahachai.

Police seized 1,000 methamphetamine tablets, orange in colour and stamped with the mark “WY”, packed in five bags containing 200 pills each.

Min now faces two major charges, entering and residing in Thailand illegally and possession of a Category 1 narcotic (methamphetamine) with intent to sell for commercial purposes.

He has been handed over to investigators at Muang Samut Sakhon Police Station, along with the seized drugs, for further legal proceedings.
