Police Hunt After Execution-Style Killing in Trang

Police in Trang province are hunting a notorious local gangster known as “Sorn Hutoon”, who allegedly gunned down a 24-year-old rival in cold blood in front of the victim’s girlfriend in the early hours of 17 August.

The victim, identified as Mr Jirameht Rueangrom, was shot five times, twice in the back and three times at point-blank range in the head, on the Trang-Phatthalung road in Ban Pho sub-district, Muang district. His motorbike was found crashed beside his body, while his girlfriend, who had been riding pillion, was left traumatised but unhurt.

Police investigators and forensic officers, led by Lt Col Nusil Timssil of Muang Trang police station, attended the scene along with rescue volunteers and medical staff.

According to initial inquiries, Mr Jirameht and his girlfriend had been out at the popular Mahanakhon entertainment venue in Trang town. After closing time they left on his motorbike, only to be followed and intercepted by another motorcyclist. The gunman, believed to have lain in wait, pulled alongside and opened fire, hitting Mr Jirameht in the back. As his motorbike toppled to the ground, the assailant circled back and delivered three shots to the victim’s head before fleeing.

Detectives believe the killing was a targeted attack, most likely linked to personal disputes, though other motives have not been ruled out.

Police sources have since revealed that the suspect has been identified as “Sorn Hutoon”, a well-known figure in Trang’s bullfighting circles with a violent past and a long criminal record. Officers are now seeking an arrest warrant and have launched a manhunt to track him down.
