Bangplee Hospital in Samut Prakan Province conducted its annual simulated fire emergency drill on 16 August, bringing together hospital staff and personnel from several local foundations and emergency services. The exercise aimed to strengthen preparedness for large-scale fire incidents, which can occur unexpectedly and pose risks to lives, property and community safety. The drill, officiated by Dr. Prapat Thammasorn, Director of Bangplee Hospital, involved more than 100 participants, including staff from Ruamkatanyu Foundation, Poh Teck Tung Foundation, Bangpu 811 Rescue Foundation, Bangplee Yai Municipality Rescue Team and local disaster relief personnel. Dr. Thammasorn highlighted the objectives of the exercise, enhancing staff skills in patient care during emergencies, ensuring coordinated response among all local agencies and developing hospital-based firefighting and patient evacuation teams that are integrated with the wider emergency medical services network in Bangplee District. “Preparedness is crucial given Thailand’s ongoing fire risks in hospitals, commercial buildings, factories and public spaces,” Dr. Thammasorn said. “Systematic planning and regular drills help reduce casualties and damage, ensuring rapid and effective response during real incidents.” He also noted that the hospital conducts annual reviews and updates of various emergency plans, including mass casualty, fire, flood and epidemic response, to identify and correct weaknesses.
