A popular Facebook page has released CCTV footage said to show a large underground gambling den operated by a man known locally as “Hia Tee”, sparking a storm of online discussion.

The footage, widely shared online, appears to show crowds of gamblers openly playing card games and dice, with claims that the operation generates monthly revenues in excess of 100 million baht. The page alleges that the den, situated in the Hathairat area of Bangkok, is overseen by a Cambodian man nicknamed “Auan”, who manages takings and monitors the games. It further claims that armed guards are present to protect the venue.

The release of the footage comes just hours after police in Bang Srimuang, Nonthaburi, raided a private home in the upscale Tha It area. Officers arrested 29 individuals caught playing “Kao Kaew” (a Thai card game). Among those detained were three identified as dealers and two as homeowners.

The circulation of the alleged casino footage has fuelled speculation about the scale of underground gambling operations in the province. However, authorities have yet to verify whether the viral video shows a current or ongoing venue, or if it is directly connected to the case in Tha It.
