A wanted gunman nicknamed “Soh” has been captured in Buriram after previously opening fire on a man in a brutal attack that left the victim seriously injured but alive.

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) confirmed that officers from the Crime Suppression Division carried out the arrest under the direction of senior commanders. The suspect, identified as Mr Phithak 24, was detained under a Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Court warrant issued in April last year on charges of attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and discharging a firearm in a public place.

The arrest took place at an unnumbered house in Non Din Daeng district, Buriram province, where police also seized a handgun, a pistol frame with magazine and 11 rounds of ammunition.

The case stems from a murder attempt in 2024, which two gunmen on a motorbike sprayed bullets at a victim, striking him four times. Miraculously, the man survived. Investigators later linked the attack to Phithak, also known as Soh, who had previously been implicated in a similar shooting in 2023.

Police intelligence suggested the fugitive was hiding in Non Din Daeng, prompting officers to move in with a search warrant. After securing the property with the owner’s consent, officers found the suspect inside. He was swiftly overpowered in a tense operation that prevented any chance of escape.

Following his arrest, Soh reportedly confessed to all charges during initial questioning. He has since been transferred to Pakham Police Station for legal proceedings.

Authorities described him as a dangerous criminal with a reputation for violence and resourcefulness in evading capture. His arrest, they said, is aimed at breaking the cycle of violent crime in the region.
