Top six all-classical radio stations in the world? Any country..

Featured Replies

Dear Folks,

I don't get out much.

And, I do not experiment with listening to a wide-range of classical radio stations.

We know that dedicated classical radio stations have been falling by the wayside, for years, as tastes change in America.

However, we also know that, in Europe, there still exists a large population of listeners who are well-informed about classical, and have the time and interest to listen.

As for me, I have pretty much stuck with the NYC station, WQXR, for many years.

And, sometimes I mix it up by listening to the student-run classical music station at Columbia University,

image.png.d5834c074dfea75c9fcbf76ab02ab23e.png

But, I gotta tell you that I think I am missing out, just by restricting my listening pleasure to America.

==============

Another thing: I used to love listening to UNDERGROUND STATIONS for jazz and underground rock....in the 60s.

Therefore, are there FAR BETTER, or slightly better, underground stations to listen to for ONLY CLASSICAL MUSIC....24-7?

I hate commercial breaks.

But, sometimes, I enjoy listening to VERY-WELL-INFORMED commentators discuss the music they choose to play.

PLEASE, PLEASE:  No need to offer up any underground stations that are not broadcasting SOLELY CLASSICAL MUSIC.....

This is not a JOKE Topic, after all.

I am getting tired, slightly, of just always clicking on one Classical Radio Station from NYC/New-Jersey....

And, in fact, I would PREFER to listen to European classical radio stations, and frequently.

So, any ideas?

I already googled this, but I think even Google does not know.

What would YOU do?

Hopefully, there are enough classical music lovers here who can provide expert opinions.

Thanks, Babe.....!

Best regards,

Gamma

Is 8 hours of continuous classic good enough for you?

Don't let me you don't like Vivaldi.

The idea that somehow folks that listen to old ancient music are more refined is silly. It’s old and nothing new about. As civilization evolves and progresses, so does the music, may as well explore the vast depths and near infinite human imagination of music. Koreans make some amazing music, try giving that a shot.

I love Vivaldi, as I have already stated.

BUT....

I am asking about LIVE RADIO.... Live Radio Broadcasts, 24/7-365.

I have enough recorded classical music on Google Drive to last a lifetime.

I am NOT talking about recordings, no matter how great.

I enjoy when the DJs hit me up with something that I have never heard before.

You can only get this experience by listening to a top classical radio station.

Also, I sometimes enjoy listening to a Classical Radio Station on the internet, play in the background.

This keeps me in-touch with the world.....

At the very least, then I know that there is.....

SOMEBODY OUT THERE.....

Also, I like NYC, and so this is why I often listen the WQXR.....

But, there must be others....

What might there be in Vienna, for example?

I have no idea.

If there is a classical music station in Korea, which I do not doubt, then please just list it here...

Minus the diatribe....

Thank you.

Spotify has lists... but you need to pay for Spotify

But I took a song from the list and found it on Youtube.

Thanks . I might start getting back into classical. It's relaxing as hell.

aa.  YES.  You are correct.  You should, for your general wellbeing, get back into classical music, if you are as human as I.

I believe that we underestimate the importance of great music, simply due to the fact that many of us are unable to take the time to appreciate it.

bb. Please understand, when I say that I am interested in at least six classical radio stations, of high quality, I am not speaking of radio stations that are part of a huge conglomerate.

Are you old enough to recall when radio stations were privately owned?

Or, back in the 60s, we could listen to so-called underground radio stations?

cc. Who knows?  Perhaps we will need to listen to classical radio stations in Czechoslovakia just to get back to our classical-radio listening roots....

Because, for sure, many of the classical radio stations in the USA have either been closed down, or they are run by the same company, and offer up the same uninteresting pablum.

And, let us be clear, when I spell pablum as PABLUM, I really mean PABULUM...or.....DO I....Mr. L.  You always criticize me for my terrible spelling, but this time, I think I am correct.

NO, Mr. L....  YOU are correct:  PABULUM is the correct spelling, and you are always correct, MR. L.....concerning spellings and misspellings.

dd.  I would say, as the Frog has Said:

If one can have a reliable list of about 5 or 6 classical radio stations, ready to click upon, throughout one's day....then....

This will improve one's feelings of wellbeing, and will add to good health.

Let us not forget, as well, that cows who listen to Mozart produce more milk.

=====================

You guys can do what you like.

I, for one, derive a great deal of pleasure from listening to LIVE classical radio stations, when they are available, now, these days, on my computer...through...

THE MIRACLE of the INTERNET.

ee.  I just need to broaden my knowledge of which radio stations might be the best,...because, in fact...

There are just to many radio stations to sift through....

THOUSANDS, in fact, and...

I haven't the time.

Perhaps, and I do believe, others here might be very interested in this Topic.

Tks, guys and gals....

I know that women also enjoy listening to Classical Music on Live Radio Broadcasts....

And not just cooking shows on YouTube....

Note:  Forget about YouTube.....for great classical radio stations, I think.  Far better to just click on the site of each Radio Station, and also listen to the ads....and the commentary.  Most good radio stations offer up interesting ads.....and I enjoy them when the ads are interesting to me.

So...This is only ONE out of SIX....or a DOZEN....around the world.....

Any ideas about the rest?????

I would also like to mention the FREE benefits of being able to listen to Classical Music radio stations one might have....

Left behind, after moving to Asia.

Listening to a favorite classical radio station that one had often listened to, in one's youth, based in one's home country...

Is now, and has been for decades, as simple as hooking oneself up to the internet, and then clicking on the proper radio-station website link.

Therefore, in the respect, we are all very lucky.

We just need to know which Classical Radio Stations do a good job making their content available, and without interruption, on the internet.

Sure, some classical stations broadcasting on the internet might be somewhat restricted due to lack of funding, and so they might not be recommended for the meticulous listener..

But, I suppose, that many are, and these orgs are willing to spend enough to provide great bandwidth, in order to offer supremely high audio quality.....

Think of it this way, I say:

aa.  Listening to a great classical radio station from home is a simple as pie, once you know which on to click on.

CONVERSELY.....

bb.  Trying to get Stilton Cheese delivered to your door, just as easily, and for free....is....

IMPOSSIBLE.

cc.  WHAT ABOUT STILTON CHEESE?

When all is said and done, and all the benefits considered....

I would FAR and AWAY prefer to listen to a quality classical radio station, rather than have a steady supply of Stilton Cheese....if I could choose only one or the other.

Classical Music is far more healthy, as well.

I know you must agree with me.

This is why:  I never become overwrought at the thought that I might not be able to taste Stilton Cheese, ever again, in my entire life.

BUT, if someone told me that I would never be able to listen to JS Bach, broadcast from Columbia University radio station, via the internet....

Then, this would be a tragedy...for me.

One cannot live by Stilton Cheese, alone.

Music is just FAR MORE IMPORTANT than cheese, is what I am saying.

BBC Radio 3. Classics all the time.

BBC Radio 3. Classics all the time.

The BBC, many years ago, was once known for being the very best that the world had to offer.

These days, I am just wondering if there are a few great niche classical radio stations which do their best to meet the requirements and tastes of a higher-level classical music listening audience.

For example, I have seen a website which offers free music for download.

And, there are a host of guys and girls on this site who know a great deal about almost every classical music recording under the Sun.

Why restrict ourselves to only English-speaking classical radio stations?

image.png.9b44103989ba83cd715799746a69d2dc.png

For example, Shanghai is very advanced in music and art, these days.

So far, I have not tried this one....

There must be many more around the world.

I have nothing against Monet....for SURE....!!!!!

BUT, the YouTube recording you provided is most obviously...NOT a classical music radio station.....

Just one more consideration, concerning listening to about SIX different classical radio stations via INTERNET:

aa.  I am thinking, STILTON CHEESE only causes weight GAIN....

And so, sacrificing my love of Stilton Cheese might be good for my health, especially since trying to source fresh Stilton in Thailand might be overly stressful for me.

bb.  BUT, on the other hand, listening to SIX different classical radio stations from around the world might spur me on to do my exercising sojourns, leading me outside, and away from my house, to walk among the beautiful trees of Thailand, and the birds, as I walk, jog, or traverse, a few miles, with my umbrella.

cc. At the moment, I ma subscribed to a 20-Gbyte plan with AIS.  I am not sure how long 20 GIGS might last, if I were to use this bandwidth to listen to classical radio stations on my Android phone, while exercising.  But, IF I need more, then I will just up my subscription plan.

The KEY Factor is finding SIX great classical music stations...so as not to become bored.

When we listen to live broadcasts of classical music, we are likely to exercise longer, and become healthier, as a result.

I am even thinking of splurging on a pair of wireless Bluetooth earbuds which might be of high enough quality to truly appreciate fantastic sound from around the world.....

I want to find some that are both comfortable and fairly sound isolating, but....I am not sure what might do....

Otherwise, I will just use my AudioTechnica headphones.....but they are not BlueTooth.....

Maybe I can buy a DONGLE or something, so that I can listen wirelessly with my AT Phones.....

Who know?

Still, listening LIVE to radio stations around the world will be a boon, while away from my house, and my lawn.

So, YES, Folks, listening LIVE is just so much better.....

You will feel more like you are actually PART of the Real World, if you do....

NOTE:  These Phones have dropped in price, a great deal, since I, years ago, many years ago, purchased my first pair:

image.png.a5fd6d68e297411cc3683164e25c82ce.png

Not sure if it might be worth it to pay for the thingy that can make them wireless, while out and about, exercising, though....

Any thoughts?

Note2:  Here is a bluetooth adapter for these phones, but it's 3rd party, it seems.  There must be a better and cheaper solution than this.....

image.png.b6f68d7a8d5fed6eb11c9f2c0d8bd01f.png

HERE might be a better adapter:

image.png.7f674742a18053e29ecc71fd5e2b3609.png

Who knows....

We need to stay mobile when on the go, LIVE, from NYC or anywhere......

This is 2025, after all.

ON THE OTHER HAND:

Maybe BEST to just stay WIRED, judging from reviews....

Also....

Anybody know where we can get GENUINE Earpads for THIS set of phones:

image.png.4af820886b63641700ecaa2af786b76e.png

I have two pair of phones.

I replaced the earpads on the older set of phones with some garbage pads I found on Lazada.

NG....!!!

ONLY the original earpads are acceptable for these phones, unless you want the sound quality to radically change (of course):

But, where to buy the original genuine pads, at a discount, is the question.

From my experience, the drivers in these phones will last a LONG time.

It is only the earpads that deteriorate quickly......

Thanks, if anyone knows.....

FOR EXAMPLE:   Are these pads REAL and Genuine???

image.png.a6bbd35b204e4a3707d660638cd24f3e.png

If so, then problem solved...but....who really knows until they are delivered.

Any slight variance from the original pads, including density of the material, thickness, etc...will cause major discrepancies in the audio quality...which is paramount for good listening.

And, if you want to listen to LIVE broadcasts of classical from NYC, then you gots to have the best....

=============

Probably best to just buy STOCK, original pads...but....

BrainWavz says these are good.....

image.png.dfcd33d0099b7b0588a0d68ab98ee495.png

Anybody know?

Why do the AT original stock pads wear out so quickly????

which Korean music?

If you go on Internet Radio lists, there are a few stations in Germany that are 24/7 Bach.

You will find most of the stations you mention --for free   ,,,,,,,,,,,,,    I am listening to Irish pub music at the moment

Just go to country you want

OK.

Irish music is not pop. It is old and good, and I mean Gaelic-Celtic music, the old and good stuff.

But, even that is too exciting for me.

I must stay with classical, in the forms of JS Bach, Vivaldi, Mozart, perhaps Beethoven piano, and Brahms.  I hate most of the concoctions of Strauss.

The radio suggestions are good...IF the selections include a REAL human doing the broadcasting, with commentary and selection made by real humans.

I will not listen to any radio stations which are owned by a large corp that owns a huge chain of them, which is most in the USA, I guess.
