Banning guns would reduce, not eliminate the killings.

In any event, where are all the leaders on the left working to ban guns? Nowhere to be found. They are just spewing the same tired rhetoric we hear every time.

Why does the left not want to incarcerate people that violate existing gun laws?

Nobody is banning prayers.

However I am sure they would rather that someone had taken action to make the shooting much more unlikely to happen in the first place so they wouldn't have to pray for their dead children. No?

I find it very odd that your main concern is ...."what are the left doing about it?"......and  not "What can we possibly do?'...........I couldn't give a flying about left v right

What counts is the risk of anyone being shot.....not just children......has to minimised.

The left going on about the NRA and all the power they have. The NRA has less than $200M a year in revenue

They spend less than a million in political donations a year and something over two million a year in lobbying.

I find it odd that you are unable to answer simple questions.

So, tell me, what can we possibly do to stop the killings?

No, but you mock that ridicule those that pray, including the parents of slain children.

NO ONE has said all that is needed is prayer. That is just something the left always says.

Ban all organisations that promote/lobby for gun ownership.

Ban all advertising that might try to encourage gun ownership

Ban all sponsorship of any event by companies associated with guns and gun ownership.

Place a 1000% tax on all guns, ammunition etc

Fund a massive reeducation program starting from an appropriate age to dissuade gun ownership

Make the process of applying for a licence extremely onerous.

Mandatory life sentence without parole for illegal gun ownership/possession of parts of a gun/ammunition.

Agree with all except the last sentence ( literally).

A mandatory life sentence without parole could lead to abuse by authorities or enemies of the suspect, i.e. planting of evidence, in this case guns.

Yeah, the First Amendment would be harder to overturn than the Second

So only the rich have, the government and criminals have guns.

Who would do that?

How so? What might some of the standards be?

Currently, we can't get parolees in big cities that violate gun laws reincarcerated.

I'm all for prosecuting and incarcerating anyone that violates gun laws.

How about we not make the perpetrators famous?

Ban guns? Ban knives? Ban cars? Ban every solid object that can be used to kill some?

The problem is not the object. The problem is the unstable person holding the object and using it to harm others.

The problem is both. An unstable person holding a knife can do far less harm to others than the same person holding a gun.

This thread has turned into the usual blame game and never ever the poor kids that got shot or what there family's are going through but then again its normal in the US, a few days pass and its old news.

Just love the positive responses....heartwarming to see how keen and receptive you are to not having little children murdered in their classrooms.

Well, it certainly could be because of the mental illness in Australia.  The government probably does not want a bunch of mentally ill people running around with guns.

Mental people are killers not guns.

Very weak.

Oh wow.....so you are actually proposing banning people.....genius.

Oh yeah, I don't care about kids, that's what it is.

I thought perhaps this time you wanted to have an honest did discussion, but no, it's always the same thing.

I have an I idea, let's snap our fingers and make all the guns go away, I support that 100%, and if you don't think it's a great idea, it's because you love having little children murdered in their classrooms.

And all these families are sure comforted by all those on the left mocking their religion, faith and prayers.

The left once again using dead children to further their sick ideology. "Never let a crisis go to waste."

No, I am proposing relating reactively and proactively to the behaviors of the people who think that violence is the way of relating to others. Blaming the object is a childish way to respond to problems.

Honest discussion.....55555......I have all the ideas.....and all you have is a bucket of cold water.

Now go back and propose solutions on how to implement my ideas effectively and I'll listen to you.....otherwise back to your prayer mat and see what joy you get talking to the man in the sky.

As opposed to the right (not wishing to take sides) who grasp these as opportunities to tell everyone.....If you all had guns this wouldn't happen........sick.

And yet childishly blaming the object works.....doesn't it?

An idea has to have some chance of implementation. Your "ideas" require overturning the First and Second Amendments.

The solution I proposed was just as realistic as yours.

I am all for stronger enforcement, and harsher punishment for violating gun laws, and that can be done today, without overturning the First and Second Amendments, and without legislation.

I have never said "..If you all had guns this wouldn't happen..." and I never heard anyone else say it.

I am against putting guns and guards in schools.

Did you have a quote of someone that said it?
