In a dramatic incident, a drug suspect from Chiang Mai attempted to take his own life after being cornered by narcotics suppression officers at a petrol station in Pak Kret district, Nonthaburi. The man was found to be in possession of a staggering 2.092 million methamphetamine pills.

The event unfolded at approximately 21:30 on August 29, when police from Chaiyaphruek Station were alerted to a man attempting to harm himself at a PTT station in tambon Khlong Khoi.

At the scene, officers discovered Mr. Apichat Pakkawuttinan, 34, from Chiang Mai, with a severe, self-inflicted stab wound to his abdomen. He was inside a silver-bronze pickup truck, registered in Chiang Mai.

According to reports from the Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB), the incident began when Mr. Apichat evaded a police checkpoint in Nakhon Sawan province. A pursuit team, led by Pol Col Mongkol Aumsap of the NSB, was initiated and followed the suspect's vehicle into Nonthaburi.

The chase concluded when Mr. Apichat stopped to refuel at the petrol station. As NSB officers moved in to search the vehicle for illegal substances, the suspect, in a desperate attempt to evade justice, produced a knife and stabbed himself in the stomach.

Officers immediately disarmed Mr. Apichat and provided emergency first aid at the scene. He was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.

A subsequent search of the pickup truck’s rear bed, concealed within fruit crates, revealed the massive haul of methamphetamine pills, estimated to be worth millions of baht on the street. The seized drugs have been impounded as evidence for further legal proceedings.
