A physical education teacher died after being struck by a van while crossing a road to find a mobile signal in Phrae province.

At around 17:00 on 31 August, Den Chai Ruam Boon Rescue Association received a report from the Narenthorn Centre in Phrae of a collision, involving a van that had hit a pedestrian, causing him to thrown over the concrete barrier and down into a ravine near the entrance to Ban Khao Plueng, Huai Rai subdistrict, Den Chai district. Rescue teams spent over half an hour locating the victim, who was found in a water channel in steep area.

According to witnesses, the victim had been accompanying students from a local school who had travelled to Chiang Mai to participate in the 8v8 GLO CUP 2025 youth football tournament for ages 13 and 15. Their school bus had broken down, while returning from the event, parked on the roadside on the downhill route from Den Chai to Uttaradit.

The teacher, later identified as Mr Kanong Thongkamsuk, a PE teacher at Lom Sak Wittayakom School in Phetchabun, crossed to the opposite side of the road at a higher point, presumably to get a mobile signal to contact a company for assistance. It was at this moment that a van driver, from Bangkok lost control, collided with him and caused him to fall into the ravine, resulting in his death.

Den Chai Ruam Boon Rescue Association notified the local police at Huai Rai station, who documented the scene before the body was taken to Somdej Phra Yuparaj Den Chai Hospital.
