Angela Rayner has admitted underpaying stamp duty on her £800,000 Hove flat after relying on faulty legal advice,

She has referred herself to the government’s ethics adviser. The deputy prime minister now faces a potential bill of up to £40,000 and intense scrutiny over her property dealings, leaving her political future uncertain.

Keir Starmer has defended Rayner, calling her decision to seek an inquiry the “right thing to do” and praising her for lifting a court order to disclose details about a family trust linked to her disabled son. Critics, however, accuse her of hypocrisy given her past calls for wealth and property taxes, and have demanded her resignation.

The dispute centres on whether her Ashton-under-Lyne family home, held in trust, meant the Hove flat should have been taxed as a second property. Rayner insists the mistake was unintentional and is working with HMRC to settle the bill. The outcome of the ethics review will determine whether she can survive the political storm.

I'm sure she is a low-tax kind of gal.

Disgraceful.

She has to go. Her position is 100% untenable.

After all the fuss about Boris' curtains. Labour are worse than the Tories.

I suppose hypocrisy is not a new thing with governments........... Starmer just seems to do it better.

He certainly does it more.
