Ho Chi Minh City experienced a significant retail surge during the National Day holidays from 30th August to 2nd September, as consumer demand soared across supermarkets, shopping centres, and traditional markets.

Throughout the holiday period, the city's retail environment buzzed with activity, aligning with the city's ambitious 18% annual trade growth target. Key sectors such as food, personal care, and school supplies witnessed impressive upticks.

At MM Mega Market Vietnam, foot traffic increased by 15–20% compared to normal days, peaking during afternoon and evening hours. The market saw sales of dry and essential goods double, with fresh produce sales spiking 18% compared to the same period last year. Đinh Quang Khôi, Marketing Director of MM Mega Market Vietnam, highlighted their strategic response by boosting supply by 15%, offering more promotions and maintaining price stability.

Nguyễn Thị Thu from An Khánh ward shared her family’s enjoyable experience, embracing both shopping and leisure before heading back to daily routines. She commended the supermarkets for creating a festive and engaging retail atmosphere.

Winmart also reported robust demand, particularly on the first and last days of the holiday. Observing a surge in online shopping, the supermarket ramped up its stock by 40%, focusing on essentials like fresh produce, processed foods, and fruit. Nguyễn Thị Thúy Hường, WinCommerce COO, noted the emphasis on safe, eco-friendly, and responsibly produced products as key consumer priorities.

Other retail giants such as Co.opmart, Emart, Lotte Mart, and AEON also enjoyed the holiday boom. Integrated shopping malls drew crowds from early morning, featuring a blend of entertainment, dining, and shopping experiences. Vietnamese-branded products with special promotions attracted high consumer interest, allowing retailers to follow consumption trends and diversify their offerings.

Traditional markets, including Bến Thành, Bà Chiểu, and Nguyễn Tri Phương, thrived during the holidays. Vendors reported increased vegetable and fresh food sales while maintaining stable prices, enriching the vibrant shopping scene.

The holiday period highlighted rising consumer spending in Ho Chi Minh City, benefiting both modern and traditional retail channels. However, experts warn that to sustain this momentum, retailers must implement "post-holiday retention" strategies. Maintaining consumer engagement and continuous promotions will be essential to preventing a dip in purchasing power.

To ensure stable growth, experts suggest enhancing customer experiences, expanding online services, and diversifying product lines to cater to evolving shopping preferences. By adopting these strategies, retailers can keep the momentum going beyond the festive season.

In conclusion, Ho Chi Minh City's retail sector has shown promising growth during the National Day holidays, setting a positive tone for the future. As the city aims for its 18% annual growth target, retailers must capitalise on this momentum to maintain consumer enthusiasm and engagement.
