In a heart-wrenching appeal, a 38-year-old woman has urged a hospital to take responsibility following the stillbirth of her first child, who had shown healthy signs in all prior check-ups. This incident has raised significant concerns regarding maternity care standards at the hospital in Sung Noen district.

Saijai and her husband were filled with anticipation as they attended a prenatal appointment at the hospital on Tuesday, scheduled just days before her expected due date on Saturday. Initial check-ups provided a glimmer of hope, as healthcare professionals confirmed the baby's heartbeat was normal, with Saijai's cervix presenting a one centimetre dilation. This indication led to her subsequent admission for labour.

As labour progressed throughout the afternoon, Saijai's cervix continued to dilate, yet birth still seemed elusive. When she finally reached nine centimetres dilation, nurses encouraged her to begin pushing. However, despite visible signs of the baby's head and hair, efforts to deliver the baby were unsuccessful. The birth had stalled, causing alarm and concern for Saijai and the medical team alike.

In an urgent attempt to mitigate the situation, hospital staff decided to transfer Saijai to another facility, suggesting that the baby might be "too large" to deliver naturally. Yet, during the ambulance journey, Saijai's anxiety worsened as she suspected her baby had stopped moving, despite reassurances from the accompanying nurses that the heartbeat was stable at 150 beats per minute.

Upon arrival at the second hospital, those fears became a devastating reality. Doctors struggled to detect a heartbeat and quickly delivered the baby, who, tragically, had already passed away.

In her grief, Saijai has publicly criticised the initial hospital's actions, expressing her dismay over their delayed response and the lack of clarity provided regarding the complications encountered during labour. She voiced her deep dissatisfaction, calling for an explanation for what went awry during those critical moments leading up to the loss of her child.

Saijai's appeal for accountability includes a request for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the cause of her baby's untimely death. She insists that the hospital must clarify the chain of events and accept responsibility for any oversights that may have occurred.

This distressing incident has prompted broader discussions about the protocols and procedures in place for maternity care. Questions abound regarding whether existing guidelines adequately address emergencies, as well as how communication can be improved between medical staff and expectant mothers during labour.

Community members have rallied in support of Saijai, calling for greater transparency and assurances that such a tragedy will not repeat itself. Her story has touched many hearts, with people demanding better safety measures and more rigorous oversight in hospitals to protect both mothers and their babies.

Meanwhile, officials from the hospital in question have yet to make a formal statement regarding the incident. A thorough investigation is anticipated, aiming to shed light on any factors that contributed to this heartbreaking outcome.

As this case unfolds, Saijai's bravery in seeking answers not only honours the memory of her child but also underscores the pressing need for accountability and change within the healthcare system. Her courageous quest for justice resonates with many, reminding us all of the vital importance of quality care and clear communication in safeguarding lives.
