The Secretary-General of Thailand’s Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), Pol. Lt. Gen. Phanurat Lakkabun, has led a high-level delegation to Laos to strengthen bilateral cooperation in combating drug trafficking, seeking help to apprehend and arrest of 29 Thai nationals wanted on narcotics-related warrants.

According to the ONCB, on 5 September, Pol. Lt. Gen. Phanurat, accompanied by Deputy Secretary-General Apikit Chor. Rojprasert, ONCB Region 4 Director Kanisorn Phapeeron, and the Thai Counsellor for Narcotics Control, visited Laos to enhance coordination in drug suppression and prevention between the two countries. The delegation was warmly received by Lao officials, including Vice Chief of the General Police Department, Maj. Gen. Salith Phudthavong, Secretary-General of the Office of Drug Control and Inspection, Col. Chanton Heuangkhamsai, and Chief of the Anti-Drug Police Department, Col. Paeng Saiyawong.

During the visit, Pol. Lt. Gen. Phanurat handed over a list of 29 Thai nationals believed to be evading arrest for serious drug-related offences, requesting the Lao authorities’ assistance in locating and returning them to Thailand. In recent operations, Lao authorities have apprehended 13 Thai nationals and repatriated them to face justice, all of whom were high-priority targets.

The ONCB noted that the ongoing investigations and tracking of fugitives highlight the current trend of drug networks fleeing to neighbouring countries while continuing to play a role in trafficking narcotics into Thailand.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Phanurat expressed his gratitude to the Lao officials and all involved agencies for their close and effective cooperation, emphasising that such collaboration benefits the people and national interests of both countries.

The 29 Thai nationals will either commit suicide or die whilst trying to escape.

You do realise Laos is landlocked.  Unless of course that is the beach on the Mekong River..lol

What about the Royal Lao Navy? (I still have the shirt!)

Wonder how much this little jaunt cost the Thai taxpayer to teach them Thaksin's deniable assassinations.

I have a feeling that's not all they'll be discussing. There are many Thai political refugees in Laos, too.
