A 35-year-old man was killed after being swept away while attempting to ride his motorcycle through floodwaters in Phimai district, Nakhon Ratchasima, on the evening of 8 September. His body was later found trapped at the mouth of a drainage pipe, pinned by a fuel container.

The incident occurred in Ban Rangka Yai, Rang Ka Yai subdistrict, following continuous heavy rain that caused strong torrents across local roads. Witnesses reported that the victim, identified as Mr Somchai from Ban Don Tamyae, Bosot subdistrict, ignored villagers’ warnings and tried to cross the flooded area on his red Honda Wave motorcycle. His vehicle and he were quickly swept away.

Hours after the incident, locals found the motorbike lodged near a wall at Phimai Samakkee 1 School, but the rider remained missing. Police and rescue teams conducted a search. The body was eventually located more than 100 metres from the last sighting, trapped at a drainage pipe opening.

Pol Lt Netirot Piyapiromchai of Phimai Police Station confirmed that the body had been sent for post-mortem examination at Phimai Hospital. Authorities noted that Mr Somchai was not a local resident and may have been unfamiliar with the site, which is known for fast-moving floodwaters.

By the morning water levels in the district had begun to recede. Officials expressed hope that conditions would return to normal if no additional heavy rain occurred. Local authorities continue to monitor the situation and advise residents to avoid flood-prone areas during the rainy season.
