WASHINGTON, Sept 11 (Reuters) - Kash Patel faced his biggest test yet as FBI director as current and former officials criticized his inaccurate statement that a suspect had been caught in the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, a prominent ally of President Donald Trump.

Moments before officials on the scene of the shooting in Orem, Utah, briefed the press on Wednesday, Patel announced on social media that the person responsible for the shooting was in custody. That claim was quickly contradicted by local officials, leading to hours of confusion before the FBI clarified that two people had been questioned and then released following the incident.

He said: 'He probably had an exfil plan. Normally it's crazy people who shoot 30 rounds.

 

This was one shot, that was it.'

MSNBC was forced to issue an official apology for their coverage of Charlie Kirk's murder.

 

“During our breaking news coverage of the shooting of Charlie Kirk, Matthew Dowd made comments that were inappropriate, insensitive, and unacceptable,” read a statement from MSNBC president Rebecca Kutler. “We apologize for his statements, as has he. There is no place for violence in America, political or otherwise.”

 

They also fired Matthew Dowd, the "analyst" who claimed that it may have been Kirk's supporters, who shot in celebration and accidentally killed Kirk. A clear example of misinformation by MSNBC.

And they want to fully analyse the meaning of the messages.

You choose a video from a college kid confronting an experienced debater and that is the conclusion you come to?

They've posted these photos and the FBI has offered a $100K reward.

 

 

The FBI also claims to have pieced together his timeline from CCTV and security video from various sources in the area.  They posted videos of the guy running across the roof then jumping off and running across a yard.

 

Shouldn't be long now.  I just hope they catch him alive.  (Edit:  of course, this may not be the shooter.  For now, he's a "person of interest")
