METV confusion at London embassy

Featured Replies

Hi, I’m trying to fill in the application for a multi entry tourist visa, (METV) which is valid for 6 months from issue, and I’m stuck on a few things and hope someone can help me. I don’t want to end up with a single entry tourist visa.

1) I’ve selected “Multiple” for the entries drop down, then on the next page it asks the “intended date of arrival”, and then the “intended date of departed”. Is this just for the first trip, so would need to be under 60 days? Or is it for the date you intend to leave at the end of the overall trip, in 6 to 9 months?

2) After that there is a question , “last port of embarkation” , and Thailand is not on the drop down list. Assuming I’m going to visit Cambodia within the 60 days, present that’s what I put?

3) I guess they need to see your flights from the uk, as well as the first flight outward to Cambodia? There’s only the option for a single pdf in the fights upload, so somehow these need to be combined in a single pdf it is it just the uk flight, returning in around 6 months

Thanks for any help.

What you've done looks ok, just include your 6 month return flight to UK, border runs are going to Laos currently by bus, no requirement to fly

Thank you. So even though it’s 6 plus months, you’re only putting down the first two months for your intended departure date?

The visa is a multi entry valid for 6 months.

The thing is it provides 60 day stamp each entry.

Departure date field best prior to 60 days (even though 30 day extension is available)

I'm fairly certain port of embarkation is where you arriving in Thailand from.

I thought so too but Thailand is the only country not on the drop down list!

Embark means board.  You did not board your flight in Thailand.  You boarded it somewhere else when you traveling to Thailand.  The question is asking you where is the last place you are boarding a flight before you arrive in Thailand.

Yes I understand it now. Filling in forms makes my brain stop working. Thanks a lot.

Put return date, the day you intend to return to the UK, otherwise you're libel to end up with a single entry and pay for a multiple entry. Thieving Bar Stewards are at it at every turn

Port of embarkation is your point of departure, UK, USA etc

I have used the METV e-visa since its implementation. I am dealing with the consular services in Ottawa.

I have never been asked about my 60 days exits in the first stage of the application. I just supply my return ticket to Canada and enter the date of arrival in Bangkok and date of departure from Bangkok as listed on the ticket. Then the application shows the number of days my wife and I are staying in Thailand.

Port of embarkation means the last boarding airport before arriving in Thailand. As we like to do several days layovers either flying eastbound or westbound and have been clearing immigration at the last layover this is our port of embarkation. If it’s just a connecting flight then we mention Toronto.

After submitting the original application (and depending on who checks it) you may receive a request for additional document (s).

I have been asked about our property in Thailand then I send a PDF of the Chanote with our names on it, a water bill or a electricity bill and that’s it.

They asked me a couple of times our intentions about the 60 days exits then I supply an itinerary with dates and means of transportation (train to Malaysia, flight to a neighbouring country, etc…) and if my planning dates fit the visa requirement then I receive the visa a week after.

Just make sure that your last 60 days entry back to Thailand falls before the expiry date of the METV.

Remember the visa dates do not match the airline ticket dates of arrival and departure so do not apply to early (4 to 6 weeks before planned departure are enough).
