The Royal Thai Police have announced an urgent nationwide meeting set for September 16, 2568. This action comes in response to reports of innocent people having their bank accounts mistakenly frozen during crackdowns on technology-related crime. Police Chief Gen. Kitti Rath Phanphet is spearheading the discussion, bringing together agencies like the Anti-Money Laundering Office and the Bank of Thailand.

Concerns that some people unaffiliated with criminal activities had their financial transactions unfairly affected prompted these actions. A meeting today saw the Police Information Technology Crime Suppression Centre analyse the situation and coordinate closely with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society. By addressing these issues, authorities aim to establish procedures that align with the legal framework without burdening any single agency.

The Chief of Police stresses that collaboration with various ministries is critical. They plan initiatives to help those affected by these account freezes, ensuring they can swiftly report and resolve issues. The police are determined to prevent criminals from exploiting these circumstances while minimising public inconveniences.

A directive will be issued tomorrow morning at 10:00 AM, instructing police commissioners from across the country to attend. This includes top officers from Bangkok, regional divisions, and local provinces to ensure a thorough response nationwide. The key is to protect law-abiding citizens while ensuring robust crime prevention measures.

The police chief acknowledges the plight of those using legitimate accounts for everyday transactions. However, Thailand's National Police Office remains committed to combating crime, preventing offenders from using loopholes for illegal activities detrimental to both the public and the nation.

Key Takeaways

  • Nationwide police meeting on September 16 to address wrongful account freezes.
  • Coordination with various agencies to ensure a balanced legal response.
  • Commitment to protecting legitimate account users while combating crime.
