Kitchen Sink Garbage Disposal Units

Featured Replies

We have occasional blockage from our double sink arrangement in the kitchen. We don't have a hot water line, so I suppose that can help fat & grease bergs to build up. No chance I can train my family to be careful what is dumped down there. The sink drains are connected to a cess pit.

Would installing one or maybe two garbage disposal units help?

Is there anything I should be aware of wrt how such a unit would interact with the Thai plumbing standards?

"Thai plumbing standards"  ?  Like not flushing toilet paper ?

Maybe hook up a garbage disposal in the toilet waste line?

No adding garbage disposals will create a different problem for you if your septic system isn't set up correctly. I've never seen a Thai install one correctly. I did the one at our farm.

A cess pit will hold the extra waste but it will clogg the soil and prevent the water from soaking into the ground. If you add disposals they will start grinding up everything instead of using the trash or composting vegetable roughage.

If grease is your problem buy a grease trap tank at Mega home or equivalent store and install it in the kitchen drain line. That will at least catch most of the grease and prevent the drain line from clogging and they are easy to clean.

Bung some stuff called BACTOCEL down the drain periodically. The GREEN one not the blue one. Can be found in HomePro etc. and sometimes in sachets at BigC MIni. The blue one is for the septic tank and goes in the toilet.
