Vĩnh Long province in the Mekong Delta is set to enhance its tourism industry by developing new cultural and marine tourism products, as announced by the provincial People’s Committee. Following its administrative merger with Bến Tre and Trà Vinh provinces, Vĩnh Long boasts more than 130 kilometers of coastline and diverse attractions. These include rich tourism resources like mangrove forests, river islets, historical sites, and cultural landmarks.

Previously part of separate provinces, Vĩnh Long now benefits from varied cultural and natural attractions, providing a strong foundation for tourism growth. The province plans to strengthen tourism partnerships with HCM City and other Mekong Delta areas to boost collaboration and visitor numbers. Significant investment is directed towards key projects like the Cái Gà Islet resort and Khmer Cultural - Tourism Village.

Dương Hoàng Sum, director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, highlighted the region's potential for eco-tourism, community, and cultural tourism. The focus is on building a “three-in-one” destination that combines river dynamics, traditional Khmer culture, and seaside attractions. To support this vision, a Tourism Development Strategy for 2025–2030 will be introduced, alongside preferential policies to encourage investment in infrastructure and facilities.

In the first seven months of this year, Vĩnh Long attracted nearly six million visitors, including over 876,000 international tourists, generating tourism revenue of more than VNĐ5 trillion (US$189.5 million). This highlights the province’s appeal and the economic benefits of strategic tourism development.

Looking ahead, Vĩnh Long aims to solidify its position as a premier tourist destination in Vietnam by leveraging its unique cultural and natural assets and enhancing cooperation with regional partners.

Key Takeaways

  • Vĩnh Long pushes for tourism growth through cultural and marine products.
  • Strategic collaborations aim to boost visitor numbers and revenue.
