A tense armed standoff lasting eight hours ended peacefully in Sisaket province after a man wielding an AK-47 rifle threatened to fire on police attempting to arrest him. The incident unfolded on 17 September in Non Khun district, when officers surrounded the home of 36-year-old Veerasak, wanted on drugs and weapons charges. He eventually surrendered without shots being fired.

Provincial governor Anupong Suksamanit and Police Major General Pissanu Wattu ordered a special task force to lead the operation as part of the “No Drugs No Dealers” campaign. The operation, known as Taskforce 238 Pitak Nakorn Lamduan, involved multiple police units, soldiers from the Suranaree Task Force and volunteer forces. Authorities were responding to community complaints about Veerasak’s threats with firearms and suspected drug trafficking activities.

When officers arrived at his residence at house number 65, Moo 13, Nong Kung sub-district, Veerasak detected them and ran inside to get an AK-47 rifle. He threatened to shoot anyone attempting to enter. Police called in his parents and relatives to speak to him by phone in efforts to de-escalate the situation, but he remained armed and unstable for several hours.

After extended negotiations, Veerasak surrendered. Police seized the AK-47 rifle with a magazine, ammunition for a .380 handgun, and three methamphetamine tablets found inside the property. He admitted ownership of the weapons and drugs, telling police he had consumed several methamphetamine pills earlier, which caused his erratic behaviour.

He now faces multiple charges including illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession of a category 1 narcotic (methamphetamine) and drug use. Veerasak and the confiscated evidence were taken to Non Khun Police Station for further legal proceedings. The case forms part of ongoing efforts in Sisaket to disrupt armed drug networks and reduce community risk.
