Mystery Death, Body Found After Pickup Crash in Phrae

A man was found dead in the back of a pickup truck following a crash in Phrae province in the early hours of 19 September 2025. The vehicle, an Isuzu pickup, collided with a roadside U-turn sign on the bypass road between Phrae and Nan near Rong Fong intersection. Two other occupants were injured and rescued by local authorities.

Police and rescue teams, including Phrae City police and Phrae Rescue, responded to the scene at 04:40. The deceased was discovered in the truck bed, carrying only a key chain and mobile phone and no identification documents. Medical staff from Phrae Hospital attended the scene to conduct an initial examination before transferring the body for further autopsy.

Investigation revealed that the two in the pickup cab, both aged 24, had been returning from a nightclub in Phrae city. Heavy rain contributed to the vehicle drive losing control approximately 100 metres past the traffic light at Rong Fong intersection. Both occupants were briefly trapped but sustained only minor injuries and were later questioned by police.

Authorities were initially confused by the presence of the unknown deceased, as the two survivors did not recognise him. The circumstances of the individual’s presence in the truck bed and the exact time of death remain unclear. Police have taken statements and are continuing to investigate the cause of death and the identity of the deceased.

The two injured men face charges for reckless driving resulting in the collision with a roadside sign. Forensic examination and further inquiry will determine whether criminal liability extends beyond the collision itself. Officials emphasise the ongoing investigation to clarify all aspects of the unusual incident.
