Nguyễn Thị Hồng Bích, 40, from Đồng Nai, has been indicted on charges of murder and illegal possession of toxic substances. Allegedly, Bích poisoned her husband and three nephews using cyanide, leading to several deaths within her family. The shocking case first drew attention in 2024 when her nephew, N.H.B.T., collapsed after consuming what Bích claimed was herbal medicine.

Bích, who runs a small food joint, had a history of familial poisonings not initially linked to her. The immediate incident triggered suspicion after tests by the HCM City Institute confirmed cyanide presence in her nephew's system. Although he survived, he suffered significant bodily harm, prompting his uncle, T.V.B., to involve the police.

Investigations uncovered evidence of Bích’s deliberate poisoning attempts, motivated by a monetary dispute with her sister-in-law. She confessed to using cyanide capsules in various instances, resulting in the deaths of her husband and two young nephews. Bích initially acquired cyanide in 2022, allegedly with suicidal intentions, due to financial issues with her husband.

Bích admitted to substituting her husband Nguyễn Thoại Thanh Thế’s medication with cyanide and lacing drinks consumed by her nephews, leading to their deaths. Her actions have been described as exceptionally dangerous and cruel, generating public outrage and anxiety. However, no evidence links her to the deaths of her father and daughter.

The case has been forwarded to the provincial court for an upcoming trial. Authorities remain firm on pursuing justice, as the crimes have severely impacted societal trust and family safety. The trial is expected to shed further light on the motivations and full extent of Bích's actions.

Key Takeaways

  • Nguyễn Thị Hồng Bích arrested for poisoning family with cyanide.
  • Investigation revealed deliberate poisoning due to family disputes.
