A husband and wife were found dead after being electrocuted while fishing in Buriram. Authorities reported that the couple had been setting fish traps in a flooded field when they were fatally shocked. The incident was linked to faulty electrical wiring connected to a water pump.

Police from Krasang station and local rescue teams were called to the scene in Ban Raka Samet, Kanthararom subdistrict, Krasang district, at 10.00 on 23 September 2025. They discovered the bodies of Mr Samarn, 58 and Mrs Lamai, 59, lying face up in a water channel next to their trap. Mr Samarn’s right hand still gripped a barbed wire fence, which bore burn marks, while a fish trap lay nearby. Both were believed to have been dead for at least four hours.

Provincial Electricity Authority officials inspected the area and found that power had been drawn from an agricultural electricity meter outside the field and extended to a water pump. Investigators said the wiring appeared damaged and had come into contact with an iron post during recent rainfall, allowing current to leak into the water and cause the electrocution.

Neighbours gave accounts of the discovery. Mr Pikul, 70, said he was the first to find the bodies when he went out to check his own traps. He touched Mr Samarn slightly but realised he had already died, as ants were gathering around his face, before rushing to inform the village head.

Relatives said the couple were farmers who grew rice and other crops. They often stayed overnight to watch over their fields. On the evening before the tragedy, Mrs Lamai had gone ahead on her motorbike around 18.30, followed later at 20.00 by Mr Samarn. It is believed she was electrocuted first and her husband was shocked when he tried to help.

Mr Sompong Pongprakhon, manager of the Provincial Electricity Authority in Krasang, said the preliminary investigation indicated the couple had extended the wiring themselves without professional knowledge. He urged villagers not to attempt to connect electrical lines on their own, stressing that improper wiring poses serious risks.
