In Udon Thani, a decomposed body was discovered in an abandoned hut following complaints from locals about a foul smell and continuous howling of dogs. The 67-year-old homeless man, known as Khamnum, was found in his underwear, with maggots, indicating he had been dead for over three days. This discovery was made in the Ban Muang community on September 24.

Art, a nearby clothing vendor, was the first to uncover the body. Following the intense odor, he found Khamnum's remains and called the police. The vendor noted that the dogs had been howling for two consecutive nights prior to the discovery.

Police and forensic teams arrived promptly, confirming no visible wounds or signs of struggle. Near the body, they found a partially consumed bottle of white liquor, which he may have used shortly before his death. Early investigations point towards substance abuse, including glue-sniffing and alcohol, as potential contributors to a fatal shock.

Daeng, a local who knew Khamnum, shared that he originally hailed from Nakhon Ratchasima but chose a transient life in Udon Thani, surviving on recyclables. Despite family pleas for him to return home after serving a prison sentence for murder, Khamnum refused due to his addictions.

Authorities are not treating the death as suspicious. An autopsy is being conducted to confirm the cause of death. Locals remember Khamnum for his struggles with substance dependence, often wondering if circumstances could have been different had he sought help.
