Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul led a team of ministers and senior officials to Ayutthaya’s Bang Ban district, on 27 September 2025, to assess flood impacts and offer support to affected communities. The visit included distributing relief supplies and meeting residents in flooded areas. The initiative aimed to provide immediate assistance and boost morale amid ongoing flooding.

The delegation, including Minister of Higher Education Surasak Pancharoenworakul, Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office Pradorn Prissanananakul, Deputy Ministers Sakkda Wichiansilp and Sasithorn Kittitharakul, Permanent Secretary of the Interior Arsit Sampantarat and other officials, visited Wat Khok Hirun in Bang Chani subdistrict. They reviewed the situation with Governor Niwat Rungsakorn and engaged directly with local residents and business operators. The team also personally delivered aid by boat to affected households.

Anutin acknowledged Ayutthaya’s recurring flood problems, noting the province’s location as a natural water catchment for the Chao Phraya River. He outlined government measures, including relief operations by the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation and urgent budget allocation for local administrations. Anutin reaffirmed the goal of ensuring aid reached all affected residents without delay.

He further highlighted long-term flood mitigation plans, such as the Bang Ban–Bang Sai drainage canal scheduled for completion by 2026, which will improve water flow by up to 1,200 cubic metres per second. Other projects include upgrading irrigation systems along the lower eastern region and dredging major rivers, requiring an estimated 100 billion baht over seven years. These efforts aim to prevent recurrent flooding rather than provide short-term aid.

Governor Niwat reported that Ayutthaya has suffered three flood events in 2025, affecting 37,419 households across 10 districts. Damage has included 26 religious sites, 20 schools, 34 village roads and eight government facilities. Five official disaster declarations have been issued this year to coordinate aid. Local requests include improved early warning systems, compensation for land use as flood retention areas, quicker relief payments and long-term flood management.

Officials stressed the urgency of implementing nine flood relief projects under the Royal Irrigation Department to address the chronic flooding in lower Chao Phraya areas. Residents and local authorities are awaiting expedited action to prevent future disasters.
