Myanmar marked World Tourism Day 2025 with a vibrant ceremony in Nay Pyi Taw, spotlighting the country’s rich cultural heritage and growing appeal as a travel destination. The Ministry of Hotels and Tourism hosted the event on Saturday, underscoring tourism’s role in environmental preservation, economic development, and international friendship.

Deputy Director-General Aung Aye Han told Xinhua that the celebration aimed to highlight the diverse forms of tourism Myanmar offers—from cultural and adventure travel to sports tourism. Video presentations showcased the nation’s iconic sites, including the ancient temples of Bagan, the floating gardens of Inle Lake, and the golden splendour of Yangon’s Shwedagon Pagoda.

The ministry has ramped up efforts to promote Myanmar abroad, participating in global travel expos and launching digital campaigns to attract visitors. It has also focused on improving service standards and training hospitality staff to ensure safe and seamless travel experiences.

Despite political challenges, Myanmar continues to draw over 1.2 million international tourists annually, with most visitors arriving from Thailand and China. Domestic tourism remains robust, with more than 10 million local travellers recorded each year over the past two to three years.

The event served as a reminder of Myanmar’s enduring charm—its landscapes, traditions, and warm hospitality—and the potential of tourism to bridge cultures and support communities. As the country looks to revitalise its tourism sector, officials hope these efforts will help restore confidence and open new paths for sustainable growth.
