Heavy rainfall from Typhoon Bualoi, now downgraded to an active low-pressure system, has led to substantial flooding in Phayao, Thailand. The storm moved into the region on September 30, bringing torrential rain that exceeded 200 millimeters. The provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office issued the highest alert level for affected areas, urging residents to safeguard their belongings and pets by moving to higher ground.

Floodwaters have inundated several villages, particularly Pha Tang and Ban Wang Bong in Khuan subdistrict, as well as low-lying areas along the Khuan river. Homes and farmland have been damaged, prompting emergency responses from local authorities. Municipal workers in Ngim subdistrict are working to clear debris from obstructed bridges to facilitate better water flow and limit further damage.

The Thai Meteorological Department reported that Bualoi was downgraded as it moved over Luang Namtha, Laos, extending its influence over upper Myanmar and upper Laos by 4 a.m. The system is projected to move through a monsoon trough affecting upper Northern Thailand and upper Myanmar. Combined with the strong southwesterly monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, it is forecasted to result in heavy rainfall across various regions.

Experts warn of potential flash floods, landslides, and river overflows in the coming days, particularly in hilly, low-lying, and previously flooded areas. Residents have been advised to stay vigilant and prepare for possible evacuations. The ongoing response includes efforts to manage water levels and provide relief to affected communities.

Looking ahead, authorities are closely monitoring weather patterns as the season continues. Further updates and alerts will be shared with the public to ensure community safety and preparedness. Local governments and disaster management teams are on high alert to respond promptly as the situation evolves.
