A 54-year-old man shot dead a foundation worker in Songkhla province on 7 October 2025 after becoming enraged over being denied a place in a drug rehabilitation programme. The victim, who was assisting in arranging treatment for addicts, was shot at his home following an argument with the suspect.

The shooting occurred at around 09:00, inside a two-storey house on Soi Saduak, Thale Luang Road, in Bo Yang subdistrict, Mueang Songkhla. Rescue officials from the Sawang Songkhla Ruamjai Foundation responded to reports of gunfire and found the victim, identified as Mr. Krit, aged 48, seriously wounded from a single gunshot to the right side of his chest. He was rushed to Songkhla Hospital but later died from severe internal bleeding despite emergency surgery.

Police identified the suspect as Mr. Kamol, also known as Poon, aged 54, who fled the scene on a motorcycle carrying the firearm. According to the victim’s partner, Kamol was a heroin user seeking rehabilitation and had previously contacted Krit, a staff member of a local foundation in Chana district, for help entering a treatment programme. However, the foundation admitted only five people per round and Kamol was told he would have to wait for the next intake.

The victim’s partner said Kamol became angry after being refused an immediate placement and demanded that Krit fast-track his admission. After this request was declined, Kamol allegedly rode to Krit’s home the next morning, called him outside and shot him during a heated confrontation before escaping.

By 11.20, police tracked down Kamol’s motorcycle, abandoned near a friend’s home in Moo 4, Khao Rup Chang subdistrict, Mueang Songkhla. Officers surrounded a nearby wooded area and found Kamol hiding about 200 metres away. He was arrested without resistance and confessed to the shooting, telling investigators he was angry that his name was omitted from the current rehab list. Police recovered the weapon, a homemade pistol known locally as a “Phuen Hak Kho Ai Theng”, hidden under his motorcycle seat.

Kamol has been charged with murder, carrying a firearm in a public place without permission and possession of an unlicensed firearm. He remains in police custody pending legal proceedings.
