Dong Nai police captured 33-year-old Le Sy Tung on October 5, who is accused of murdering a couple and their 11-year-old granddaughter in southern Vietnam. The suspect claimed he was executing a mission from a game; however, evidence indicates robbery as the motive. Tung was found with weapons such as gun parts, a silencer, and smoke grenades at his hideout in Phuoc Long Ward.

Prior events unfolded when the bodies of 48-year-old Do Duy Thien, his wife, and their granddaughter were discovered by neighbors on October 3. Autopsies revealed all victims had been shot in the head. The crime scene displayed signs of a violent robbery, with overturned furniture and a forcibly opened safe.

Tung's addiction to gaming reportedly influenced his initial claims. Police, however, emphasize the evidence of robbery due to scattered overturned items and the targeted safe. A cloth bag was allegedly used by Tung to prevent bullet casings from being detected, complicating forensic analysis.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long has taken a direct role in the investigation owing to the heinous nature of the crime. The victims were known as kind and prosperous, residing on a dimly lit hillside road with infrequent neighbors. Notably, the couple's other children were absent on the night of the murders.

Key Takeaways

  • Suspect Le Sy Tung claims a game mission prompted the killings, but robbery is suspected.
  • Evidence and testimonies counter Tung's initial statement indicating gaming influence.
  • The investigation is directly overseen by Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long due to the case's severity.

Can't see executing a mission from a game as being much of a defence.

It is always nice to hear that someone wearing a helmet was quickly identified and caught, but the son of a billionaire who was interviewed by police suddenly and mysteriously escaped.
