General Secretary of the Communist Party of Việt Nam Central Committee Tô Lâm arrived in Pyongyang on October 9, kicking off a state visit to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) at the invitation of Kim Jong Un. The visit aims to reinforce the traditional friendship between the two nations, marking the significance of their 75th-anniversary diplomatic relations.

Welcoming the Vietnamese delegation at Pyongyang Airport were DPRK officials, including Kim Song Nam and Im Chon In. The Vietnamese Ambassador to the DPRK, Lê Bá Vinh, along with the embassy staff, also greeted the delegation. This visit underscores the historic relationship built by former leaders and supported through times of mutual assistance and solidarity.

The DPRK was among the first to establish diplomatic ties with Việt Nam in 1950. Their relationship has deep roots, with support exchanged during Việt Nam's national liberation and ongoing solidarity in international matters. As they celebrate their Friendship Year 2025, both nations emphasize the value they place on longstanding relations.

The visit is seen as a chance for leaders from both sides to discuss strategic directions for continuing and strengthening their traditional bonds. Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyễn Minh Vũ highlighted that the visit provides a platform for exchanging views and fostering deeper cooperation. Việt Nam reiterates its support for peace and collaboration on the Korean Peninsula and globally.

Looking forward, this visit is expected to set the tone for future cooperation, promoting political and strategic alignment between Việt Nam and the DPRK. As both countries commemorate their enduring partnership, this meeting may lead to further diplomatic engagements and collaborative projects.
