A late-night crash in Trang left much of the city without electricity after a woman driving a pickup truck struck and knocked down nine power poles, damaging transformers and several nearby vehicles. The crash, which occurred on the evening of 10 October, caused widespread disruption, with police and rescue workers rushing to the scene to assist and begin repairs.

Police identified the driver as Ms. Natthachaya, aged 22, who was returning home from a Rua Phra boat festival when she lost control of her white Toyota Hilux, on a wet curve along Huai Yot Road. The truck collided with roadside power poles, causing a domino effect that brought down nine in succession. Three people in the vehicle sustained minor injuries and no alcohol was found in the driver’s system following an initial test.

The crash caused extensive damage: a transformer was destroyed, and three vehicles, including a white Mitsubishi Pajero and a Toyota Vios, were struck by falling poles and live wires. Mr. Wisanun, 34, one of the affected motorists, said he had been driving home with his family when he saw the power lines collapsing. He quickly swerved but was unable to avoid damage to his car’s side mirror and bodywork. Another resident, Ms. Phimon, 65, described being jolted awake by a loud explosion and flashes of light before the entire area went dark.

Police and officials from the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) arrived soon after to assess the damage and restore order. The power outage extended across a wide section of Huai Yot Road, plunging over half the city into darkness for several hours. Repair teams worked overnight to clear debris, remove fallen poles and begin reconnecting the power grid.

Authorities have yet to determine the total cost of the damage, which includes power infrastructure, vehicles and private property. The investigation is ongoing to confirm the cause of the crash, though police believe speed, the wet road conditions and a sharp curve contributed to the incident.
