An explosion caused by a suspected cooking gas leak destroyed a beauty salon in Pathum Thani’s Mueang district on the morning of 11 October, killing one person and injuring seven others. The blast ignited a fire and sent debris flying more than 30 metres and damaged nearby houses and vehicles. Firefighters brought the blaze under control within 30 minutes.

Police received the emergency call at around 07:15, from residents of the Phanasin Village, Soi 2, in Ban Chang subdistrict. Pol. Lt. Col. Chaiporn Areeyawong, an investigator with Mueang Pathum Thani Police Station, led officers to the scene along with seven fire engines from local municipalities and rescue volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation.

The explosion originated at house number 69/129, a townhouse operating as the “Pao Wanna” beauty salon. Flames engulfed the property and the force of the blast shattered walls, windows and metal fittings, scattering them across a wide radius. Firefighters managed to contain the blaze after half an hour of intense effort.

Inside the wreckage, authorities discovered the body of Ms. Petchkamon Bumrung, 63, known locally as “Pao Wanna,” the salon owner. She was found deceased in the kitchen area at the back of the house. Seven others sustained injuries, mostly from the explosion’s shockwave and were taken to nearby hospitals by rescue teams.

Initial investigations suggest the explosion was triggered by an LPG leakin the kitchen before igniting. Mr. Somkuan Chatwong, 52, the next-door neighbour, said he heard a loud blast that caused his ceiling to collapse. His house, located at number 69/128, suffered significant damage, and both his son and daughter-in-law were among the injured.

Police cordoned off the area and worked with forensic officers to determine the precise cause of the explosion. The deceased’s body has been sent to the Institute of Forensic Science, Ministry of Justice, for autopsy. Authorities continue to assess property damage and assist affected residents.
