A 58-year-old man in Buriram has been arrested after fatally striking his brother-in-law with an axe during a violent confrontation. The incident occurred on the night of 10 October in Ban Nasuai So, Prakhon Chai District, following an alleged assault on the suspect’s sister by her intoxicated husband. The man remained at the scene and later surrendered to police, claiming he did not intend to kill.

Police identified the suspect as Mr. Samnao Promprakorn, aged 58, who attacked Mr. Khaek, a 60-year-old Myanmar national with no legal documents. Officers from Prakhon Chai Police Station, led by Pol Lt Col Sirichai Charoensiri, arrived at the scene alongside rescue workers and found the victim lying dead in a pool of blood inside the house. The deceased had sustained a fatal axe wound to the forehead.

Mr. Samnao told investigators that he heard his sister, Ms. Sangaow Promprakorn, 61, shouting for help as her husband was beating her. When he rushed in to intervene, the drunk man allegedly charged at him. Fearing for his safety and desperate to protect his sister, Mr. Samnao grabbed an axe nearby and struck his brother-in-law once on the head. He said he later realised the man had died and insisted it was not his intention to cause death, only to stop the attack.

Ms. Sangaow, the victim’s wife, told police that she had been living with Mr. Khaek for about 30 years since meeting him while working in construction in Bangkok. She said her husband often became violent after drinking, and on the night of the incident, he started an argument that quickly escalated into physical abuse. Her brother, who lived in the same house, intervened to defend her.

Police have detained Mr. Samnao and are continuing their investigation. He remains in custody at Prakhon Chai Police Station, where authorities are preparing to charge him for causing death during a domestic dispute.
