Two suspected drug dealers were detained in Thalang, Phuket, following a significant police operation that resulted in the seizure of 662 methamphetamine pills and over 30 grams of crystal meth. The arrests, conducted on October 12, are part of the 'No Drugs No Dealers' campaign, aiming to curb drug trafficking in alignment with the Ministry of Interior's initiatives for drug-free communities.

These arrests were orchestrated by Phuket Provincial Police Commander Police Major General Sinlert Sukhum and supported by Deputy Commander Police Colonel Oknit Danpitaksat, along with other superintendents. Thalang Police, in collaboration with the Office of the Narcotics Control Board and the Crime Suppression Division, targeted a resort in Pa Klok to apprehend the suspects. The individuals, identified as 50-year-old Somkid Kongnam and 43-year-old Panitchanat Sengiam, were found with drug paraphernalia and mobile phones valued at approximately 12,000 baht.

The suspects face charges of joint possession of Category 1 narcotics with intent to distribute, which carries severe penalties, including life imprisonment and fines up to 5 million baht. This crackdown reflects the broader efforts by law enforcement to tackle drug distribution networks within Phuket.

In a separate incident, a Bangkok operation led to the arrest of a man posing as a doctor while distributing crystal meth to LGBTQIA+ clients. The man, known as Kom-anan or "Doctor Golf," allegedly offered drugs and participated in sexual activities at a love hotel. With over 100 clients under his purview, his activities drew attention, prompting a sting operation by the Metropolitan Police Bureau in Watthana district.

Experts emphasize the importance of persistent law enforcement efforts and community involvement in reducing drug-related offenses. Such operations highlight the vulnerabilities in some sectors, necessitating comprehensive strategies.

Looking ahead, authorities are expected to intensify the 'No Drugs No Dealers' campaign with increased surveillance and community collaboration. As legal proceedings commence against those apprehended, further investigations will likely continue to dismantle drug networks across the region.

  • Two suspected drug dealers in Phuket were arrested with a large methamphetamine seizure.
