Former Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has announced his intention to return and lead Thailand’s Democrat Party. This comes a day before the party’s assembly to choose a new leader, following Chalermchai Sri-on's resignation due to health issues.

Abhisit, who led the party from 2005 to 2019, revealed his comeback through a Facebook post, expressing his commitment to public service. Along with a group photo featuring former members like Korn Chatikavanij and Sakolthee Phattiyakul, Abhisit highlighted his readiness to steer the party forward once more. His resignation in 2019 followed a significant electoral defeat, and he again departed in 2023 amidst internal turmoil.

If elected, Abhisit will step into the leadership role again, pledging to present a new vision for the party. Insights into his reform strategy and future goals are expected to be shared post-election, signalling a possible shift in party dynamics.

Key Takeaways:

  • Abhisit Vejjajiva announces his return to lead the Democrat Party.
  • His announcement comes just before the party’s leadership election.
  • Abhisit aims to present a reform-driven vision for the party's future.

What is it that drives washed up politicians and boxers to attempt ill advised comebacks that only themselves think is a good idea?

Who ever ends up leading the Democrats, they need to grow some balls and become a lot tougher than their previous stint in power.

Another one who will divide the country further, thaksin keeps trying to stay relevant when the elites don't want him in politics and will always find a way to get him out of power, him his sister and daughter should be a lesson to learn from but he keeps trying. Abhisit has too much bad blood after his crackdown on the central protesters

Day job not working out? :coffee1:

Doesn't Abhisit becoming PM require a pre-emptive military coup?

Just thinking about history.

No, but it could get get a whole lot better.  Don't give up as completely as this...

There is a party that wants real change.  Vote for them.  And when they are blocked again, don't expect 'Democrat' Abhisit to be by your side.

They will never have a chance of success unless they drop one of their main demands.
