Nong Khai

Featured Replies

My situation in SE Asia is a bit in flux and I have been looking at Nong Khai, only because of its transport proximity to both Vientiane and Bangkok.

Any residents of the city itself? I assume the road that runs along the River would be a nice place to live? Do they have tuk tuk style transport? How is the air during burning season

Thanks

Nong Khai is pleasant. Just not much to do. Udon has better markets and bars.  Udon also has better rooms for cheap price. I stay in this place with pool 400 a night large rooms. Monthly rooms around. The Irish Clock hotel is good. Walking street market is good.

Nong Khai is okay, but as with all places it depends on what you make of it. NK has a decent bunch of restaurants and bars by the river, so pretty chill, plus a lot of passing people traffic on the way to Laos and back. You can also easily jump over to Laos and visit Vientianne for the weekend, and Udon is close too which has stuff going on. Guess it depends what you are looking for and what floats your boat.

Udon has more action. Only 1 hr away.

I do the airport in 40 min.

Unless you live at the bottom of NK province, I'd allow 1 hr 15 mins to UTH from say, the Prap Ho Monument @ main area at downtown NK.
