U.S. President Donald Trump is set to witness a significant diplomatic moment as Thailand and Cambodia prepare to sign the Declaration of Thai-Cambodian Relations on October 25 in Malaysia. The Malaysian Prime Minister and ASEAN Chair Anwar Ibrahim will join the event, marking progress in resolving long-standing border disputes. This move aims to ease tensions along their shared border, highlighting a new chapter in bilateral relations.

Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow announced the agreement will be signed during the ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, taking place from October 25–28. The declaration includes a strategic plan for withdrawing heavy weapons, clearing landmines, and enhancing joint efforts to combat transnational crime. These agreements have followed constructive discussions at the Cambodian–Thai Joint Commission on Demarcation for Land Boundary (JBC) meeting in Chanthaburi, where key terminologies were agreed upon for disputed regions.

During the JBC meeting held from October 21–22, officials agreed to adopt the neutral term “adjust land holding/possession” instead of more confrontational terms regarding land issues in specific areas. After reaching consensus, the meeting also led to decisions to replace 15 original boundary pillars and three submerged ones. They also approved the use of advanced LiDAR technology to expedite surveying and mapping efforts.

Prasas described the talks as "straightforward and constructive," reflecting a shared commitment to expedite the border demarcation. Thai Defence Minister Gen. Natthaphon Nakphanich highlighted collaborative efforts, including joint surveys in disputed areas, indicating increased cooperation and mutual trust. Temporary boundary markers will be set for survey purposes, maintaining Thailand’s territorial rights while fostering closer ties.

Looking ahead, these developments signal a promising step towards enhanced peace and cooperation at the upcoming ASEAN meeting. The agreements reached will be integral in determining the next phases of collaboration between Thailand and Cambodia, showcasing a commitment to peaceful dispute resolution.

Key Takeaways:

  • Thailand and Cambodia are set to sign a border agreement with Trump as a witness.
  • Key agreements include weapon withdrawal, landmine clearance, and joint crime combat.
  • This marks a move towards peaceful dispute resolution and stronger bilateral ties.

Yeah, it´s good, and they have managed all this without Mr Trump. Except a lame threat about higher tariffs. You know, the ones he is starting to lose on, and US companies are losing even more on. Something that leads to lower trust score for the clown president. From a recent poll that states about 40% at the moment. It probably going to fall down to the same level as in January 2021, when he stood at 29%, and by that placed as #4 on the list of US presidents with the lowest ever approval rating score.

But don´t worry, you are winning! 😂
