A 23-year-old security guard was assaulted by two teenagers on the Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien metro line in Ho Chi Minh City. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon after the guard asked passengers to maintain order. The altercation happened at Thu Duc Station around 5 p.m., involving teenagers aged 15 and 17.

The conflict began when the guard noticed children running inside the carriage. He approached the group to remind them to maintain order, prompting a violent reaction. Passengers filmed the attack, capturing one teenager repeatedly punching and kicking the guard, while another later joined in.

Despite efforts by other passengers to stop the attack, the guard sustained multiple injuries. A HCMC Urban Railway Company No. 1 (HURC1) representative confirmed the company is cooperating with police. Legal action is being considered, though details about the attackers remain undisclosed.

The Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien line, operational since late last year, spans nearly 20 km and includes 14 stations. It connects the city center to the eastern gateway, with the line serving approximately 57,785 passengers daily as per a June report. The incident has raised concerns about security measures on public transport.

Experts emphasize the need for enhanced security protocols and quicker response systems. The metro operator is reviewing existing safety policies to prevent similar incidents. Community reactions have called for stricter penalties to deter future occurrences.

As police gather further evidence, increased patrols by security personnel on the metro line may be anticipated. Discussions about additional staff training and surveillance improvements are underway. Measures to safeguard both staff and passengers are being prioritized.
