US prosecutors suspended after calling January 6 defendants 'mob of rioters

 The U.S. Justice Department placed two prosecutors on leave on Wednesday, hours after they referred to Trump supporters who stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021, as "a mob of rioters" in a sentencing memo, said four people familiar with the matter.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Samuel White and Carlos Valdivia were placed on administrative leave and locked out of their government devices, one day before their scheduled appearance in federal court on Thursday for Taylor Taranto's sentencing.

Taranto was convicted on gun charges after driving to former President Barack Obama’s Washington neighborhood in June 2023, shortly after then-former President Donald Trump posted what he asserted was Obama’s address online.

Just because they violently forced their way into the Capitol to stop the Constitutionally prescribed transfer of power was underway these prosecutors called them a mob of rioters? Maybe the Justice Dept heads would be OK with calling them a parade of rioters?

A federal judge appointed to the bench by President Donald Trump heaped praise Thursday on two federal prosecutors who were placed on administrative leave after they described those who stormed the Capitol in 2021 as a "mob of rioters."

U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols said at a sentencing hearing that the prosecutors, Carlos Valdivia and Samuel White, were among the best attorneys who have appeared before him.

“In my view, both Mr. Valdivia and Mr. White did a truly excellent job in this case,” Nichols said at the hearing for Taylor Taranto, a Jan. 6 defendant who was also convicted on gun and other charges stemming from an incident in 2023.

One long term outcome of Trump offering pardons to those 1600 convicted in Washington DC is that those are the same judges of both Republican and Democratic appointment that the Trump admin will have deal with for the next 3+ years.
