Tourism has roared back to life at the Similan Islands in Phang Nga, as both Thai and foreign visitors return in large numbers to admire the iconic viewpoint at Sail Rock and the stunning Donald Duck Bay on Island No. 8. The area, part of the Similan Islands National Park in Ko Phra Thong subdistrict, Kuraburi district, reopened to the public on October 15 after a five-month closure during the monsoon season.

Aerial photographs captured on October 31 show the breathtaking beauty of the islands, with turquoise waters and pristine white sand beaches drawing crowds of eager tourists. Visitors were seen swimming, snorkelling and hiking along the island’s nature trail leading to the famous Sail Rock viewpoint. The massive granite boulder, shaped like a billowing sail, has become a must-visit spot for travellers keen to take photos and enjoy panoramic views of the Andaman Sea.

Park officials reported a noticeable increase in arrivals since the reopening, with boats from the mainland bringing tourists daily to explore the islands. Many foreign visitors, particularly from Europe and East Asia, have been sharing their experiences on social media, further boosting interest in the park’s scenic attractions. Local tour operators and boat services have also seen a surge in bookings following the seasonal reopening.

The Similan Islands, a protected marine area, are renowned for their rich biodiversity and crystal-clear waters, which make them one of Thailand’s top destinations for diving and eco-tourism. Authorities continue to enforce visitor limits and conservation measures to protect coral reefs and marine life while ensuring sustainable tourism practices.

Over rated over priced and overcrowded. Only way to enjoy the place is camp overnight. Gets quiet when the boats leave and early morning before they arrive.
