Russia turns inward to target pro-war figures

Featured Replies

Taken together, analysts say, the cases point to a new trend: a purge not only of dissenters but also of the regime’s own supporters, as rival factions within the system turn on each other.

“First, they went after the anti-war voices. Now there are none left, and the repressive machine cannot be stopped,” said the Russian political scientist Ekaterina Schulmann.

Another case of nostalgia for the good old days of Stalinism.

Ukraine going after the Russian energy infrastructure with hard hitting munitions has turned the tide of the war. That, and the focus on the Russian shadow fleet, as well as other export channels.

PS. Anyone else noticed how practically all the Putin fanboys are gone from AN/this sub-forum?

I'm pro-Russia, pro-Putin.

100%

I'm a Belgian.

I feel sorry for myself too as my Belgian state pension has already been diminished to buy 45 kill-switch US F-35.

To protect Belgium against the evil empire-building Putin my pension has to go.

So said Mark Rutte.

Belgium has also given one billion Euros to Zelensky this year and promised one billion a year every year.

Belgium will also enrich the US MIC by buying weapons from the US to give to Ukraine.

If you use one media source, i.e., Western media such as The Guardian, you get one and only one world view.  And then if you are an ideologue, you parrot the "one and only one world view" narrative.

The current Western (UK/EU/US Neo-con) narrative goes like this:
Russia is losing the Ukraine war, Russia is losing millions of troops, Russia military equipment is sub-standard, NATO out-produces war weaponry, Putin plans to invade the EU and reestablish the Soviet Empire, the Russian economy is in ruins, the Ruble is rubble, Putin is a repressive dictator, the Russian offensive is permanently stalled by superior Ukrainian troops.

Ukraine is not winning.  Russia is not losing.  Russia is in no hurry to accomplish the goals of the Special Military Operation which have been clearly promulgated by the Russian government - if - you bother to read new sources other than Western media who are little more then stenographers for Neo-con war interests and NATO countries foreign offices and EU/UK leadership.  Western media, as stenographers, have one goal: convince the Western public that their governments need to keep pouring hundreds of billions of taxpayer money into the lost cause which is the economic black-hole called Ukraine - which is a proxy for NATO and Western interests.

Time will reveal.  Time is the ultimate unmasker of facts and truths.

Yes. I remember that the Soviets broke the back of the Wehrmacht at Stalingrad,

The Soviets lost some 27 million people and soldiers fighting off the Germans.

Stalingrad, Kursk, Bagram, Berlin made the Normandy landing possible.

I acknowledge too the bravery of the Allied.

I remember too that Patton wanted to go all the way to Moscow, taking advantage of an exhausted Soviet Army.

And that some Wehrmacht units that surrendered to the Allied were kept fully armed for the purpose of joining forces with the Allied to go on fight the Soviets.

Russophobia  goes a long way back...

I would love to see Russia get a chance to have a decent government by her people and for her people to trade freely with the world and improve their lives. perhaps if they turn on the head warmonger they could make it happen!

YOU, are dodging my input, you were on about supporting Putin because supporting Ukraine costs YOU money, which I doubt.

YOU and yours, a Belgian, were saved by MONEY and LIVES from other countries,  now YOU want to forget all that and let the Ukrainians DIE by the hands of an invader dictator.

YOU, should be ashamed of yourself.....😬

Oh, my uncle was killed on your doorstep.............:ermm:

Patton got it right after the fall of Berlin when he wanted to continue on and take Moscow. His correct logic was that the US was going to fight them eventually and all his “boys“ were there already...

I have no wish to be pedantic, and I do realise that the Belgian perspective on the Second World War may differ from other (combatant) nations, but Bagram was a Soviet and Later American air base in Afghanistan, and the Battle for Berlin took place 9 months after the Normandy Landings!

Let us assume that you are actually thinking about "Operation Bagration. That was indeed a severe defeat  inflicted on the Germans by the Soviets, but again, was after the Normandy Landings.

Lordy, when did progressive liberals with multiple pronouns become Neo-conservative war hawks.  What a world we live in.  How many years did you put into the US military @BLMFem?  I'm trying to figure out when the Left went so far left as to loop around to the right.  🤔
