A 20-year-old man in Chonburi fought off a large python that was moments away from swallowing his pet cat early on 7 November. The encounter occurred at a rented room in Village 5, Huai Kapi subdistrict, Mueang district. Firefighters from Saensuk Municipality responded to an emergency call and managed to capture the snake, which measured nearly three metres long and weighed around 15 kilograms, before releasing it safely back into the wild away from residential areas.

The incident took place at around 05:00 after the man’s father had opened the room door, allowing their cat to step outside. Moments later, the family heard faint cries from the animal. When the owner, identified as Mr. Paisan, went to investigate, he was horrified to find a massive python coiled tightly around the cat, attempting to crush it before swallowing.

Acting quickly, Mr. Paisan picked up a stone and struck the snake on the head, forcing it to release the cat. The frightened animal survived the ordeal, though visibly shaken. The python, however, slithered under a clothes rack to hide. Mr. Paisan then immediately called the rescue team for assistance. Firefighters arrived shortly after and used long metal tools to safely capture the reptile, which was later released back into a nearby natural area.

Mr. Paisan told reporters that he had previously lost three cats without knowing why, only now realising that a large snake might have been responsible. He added that the python’s swollen belly appeared to contain the remains of at least two animals, possibly cats from nearby homes. He expressed relief that he had arrived in time to save his current pet and urged neighbours to remain vigilant.

Authorities reminded residents to take precautions, especially during the rainy season when snakes often enter residential areas in search of food and shelter. They advised pet owners to keep animals indoors and to contact rescue services immediately if large reptiles are spotted.

Cats probably do a lot better at predatorial behavior, mine is as soppy as heck but doesn't do the local bird population many favours.

At least BBQ it after killing, the pussy may enjoy it

Pah.  The snake was just trying to make friends with the cat by giving it a nice cuddle.  All a misunderstanding!

Domestic cats are incredibly destructive animals, no doubt, but they don't grow to a size where they can threaten people.
