A 46-year-old man was injured after his three-year-old Thai dog, named “Chanon,” jumped and bit him on the head in Samut Prakan province on 8 November 2025. The attack occurred inside the family home in Siam Niwet Village, Soi Thepharak 92, leaving the victim with deep lacerations and blood covering his face.

Volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, Samrong Nuea-Mueang station, provided first aid at the scene before transporting the man to a nearby hospital. Examination revealed three head wounds, each approximately six centimetres long, which required immediate treatment to stop bleeding and stitches.

The victim, Mr. Phairat, explained that the dog had normally slept in a separate area of the house. “Because there were many mosquitoes outside, I brought him into the house. When I called him while he was asleep, he got startled and jumped at my head,” he said.

Authorities emphasised the need for pet owners to take precautions, especially with large or aggressive dogs. They recommend creating separate spaces for pets and family members to reduce the risk of incidents like this. They note that even familiar pets can behave unpredictably when startled, under stress, or in confined spaces and advise owners to supervise interactions carefully.

Key Takeaways

• A 46-year-old man was injured by his dog inside his Samut Prakan home.

• The attack left three deep lacerations on his head, requiring immediate medical attention.

• Authorities urge pet owners to separate animals from living spaces to prevent similar incidents.

I guess i would be the first then. The dog should be put down. I seriously doubt the dog attacked the owner from waking it up. Unless it attacked out of fear from the owner. Either way, it should be put down for attacking a person.

Never bite the hand that feeds you.

We do not know the exact details here. You should never wake up a dog by trying to move it.  A dog can react at that moment instinctive without realizing that it is the owner.

My thinking about Thai's feeding the Strays is more about Buddism,  Making Merit, seen to be doing the right thing, rather than  a thought for the Animals, thats why there's so many strays roaming the streets, im sure not all put there by Foreigners

Just an explanation regarding my previous comment. If you wake up a deep sleeping dog you should absolutely not attempt to lift it up to carry. Also not push or pull a sleeping dog.

It is a recipe for disaster to happen. You have to keep a bit distance first because otherwise the reaction will be instinctive and can be unintended.

In the mentioned case the owner had injuries at his head which indicates that he probably try to lift the dog up.

You should not wake a sleeping dog because it can cause them to become startled and react defensively, potentially leading to them snapping or biting. Waking a dog abruptly, especially during REM sleep, can also cause confusion and distress, similar to a human being woken from a nightmare. If you need to rouse a dog, do so gently by calling its name or speaking softly, rather than touching it.

That's exactly what the owner did!

I doubt that. How can he be bitten 3 times at his head? If he just called the dog his wounds would be at his legs. It does not make any sense. No dog is able to jump high up to bite someone on his head and that several times in a row.

Much more to this story. I strongly suspect the dog has been seriously mistreated.
