WW2 Hero, 100, Says Britain Under Labour Is ‘Rotten To The Core’

A 100-year-old D-Day veteran has delivered a blistering verdict on modern Britain, saying Sir Keir Starmer’s Labour government has turned the country he once fought for into something “rotten to the core.”

Royal Navy veteran Alec Penstone, who took part in the Normandy Landings of 1944, says the Britain of 2025 is “unrecognisable” — a nation now consumed by “division, hatred, and greed.” The widower, who was married to his sweetheart Gladys for 77 years, laments what he calls a collapse in duty, decency, and leadership.

“There are too many people with their hands in the till,” Penstone said. “This country is so divided it doesn’t seem a nice place any more. I blame the politicians — it’s all self, self, self.”

Penstone’s broadside comes amid mounting anger over a sleaze-hit Labour Party, reeling from scandals involving Angela Rayner’s stamp duty breach, Rachel Reeves’ unlicensed rental property, and Starmer’s acceptance of £16,000 worth of designer clothes from a party donor.

After 17 months in power, Labour faces accusations of taxing families “to the hilt”, while presiding over soaring inflation, stagnant wages, rising unemployment, and faltering business confidence. Meanwhile, thousands of illegal Channel crossings have further fuelled public fury.

Penstone, who fought for Britain’s freedom 81 years ago, says the modern nation is now defined by greed and self-interest, not sacrifice. “It just doesn’t seem to be a nice place any more,” he said, adding that on this Remembrance Day, he felt “very low” — mourning not only his fallen comrades but the state of the country they died defending.

As the “greatest generation” fades, Penstone’s words strike at the heart of Britain’s identity crisis. “We were taught to put service before self,” he said. “Now it’s the other way round.”

Key Takeaways

  • Slams Starmer’s Labour for greed, sleaze, and punishing working families.

  • Says the country is now “unrecognisable” from the one his generation fought for.

Well said.  Personally I think the exploitation of veterans who served their country and defeated fascism, by the far Right is disgraceful.

He said Britain.

Which is under Labour.

He is absolutely right. These war veterans must be disgusted at what Labour are doing to this once great country.

Imagine having to watch Lammy refuse to answer a simple question 5 times in Parliament after risking your life for the country. He must be absolutely repulsed by the whole sorry show.
