King Abdullah II of Jordan will visit Vietnam from November 12-13, marking the first official visit by a Jordanian king to the country. This trip, coinciding with the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations, is expected to enhance cooperation between the two nations. The visit includes meetings with Vietnamese leaders such as State President Lương Cường, participation in a business forum, and signing of multiple cooperation agreements.

This visit signifies the first high-level exchange between Vietnam and a Middle Eastern nation in nine years. Vietnam and Jordan have already maintained strong diplomatic and trade relations, with Deputy Foreign Minister Phạm Quang Hiệu's visit to Jordan in December 2022 and Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính's meeting with the Jordanian Crown Prince in 2024. The two countries' trade turnover reached approximately $190 million in 2024, and they aim to boost it to $1 billion by 2035.

Experts highlight the potential for cooperation in food security and the Halal industry, alongside workforce training and technology development. Vietnamese ambassador Nguyễn Thanh Diệp noted the importance of understanding local Islamic culture to strengthen business relationships. Jordan's current investment projects in Vietnam focus on certain promising sectors like renewable energy and textiles.

Looking forward, both nations plan to enhance delegation exchanges and support each other at international forums. Businesses are encouraged to attend trade fairs in cities like Dubai and Riyadh to expand their presence and seek new partnerships. The focus will remain on sectors aligned with regional demand to maximize mutual benefits.

Key Takeaways

  • King Abdullah's visit to Vietnam marks a historic milestone in bilateral ties.
  • The two countries aim to increase trade turnover to $1 billion by 2035.
  • Businesses should focus on sectors like renewable energy and Halal products.
