A shocking shooting at the Krabi Agricultural Career Promotion and Development Centre left two officials dead and one seriously injured after a construction contractor opened fire during an inspection on 14 November. Police arrested the suspected gunman, 64-year-old contractor Somphon, shortly after the attack, which unfolded at the construction site behind the training centre building in Moo 1, Khao Kram, Muang district. The incident caused immediate disruption to ongoing renovation work and prompted a large police and forensic response.

Investigators from Ao Nang Police Station, led by Pol Lt Col Phatthaphon Leesu, arrived at the scene with senior officers, forensic teams and medical staff from Krabi Hospital. They found the bodies of architect Pramote, 51, shot in the forehead and civil works employee Channarong, 49, shot in the left temple. A third victim, agricultural development officer Nathakorn, 40, was rushed to Krabi Hospital with critical injuries.

Police said the victims were part of a committee inspecting an ongoing renovation project worth about 8 million baht. The work forms part of an e-bidding procurement process for the centre’s training facility, overseen by the Krabi Provincial Office of Public Works and Town & Country Planning. Prior to the shooting, witnesses reported a heated dispute between Somphon and members of the inspection team over delays and contractual performance.

According to investigators, the group had been walking through the construction site when multiple gunshots rang out, prompting immediate confusion before the victims were found. Somphon fled in a vehicle but was later arrested with a .38-calibre handgun believed to be the murder weapon. The suspect reportedly confessed, claiming stress and heavy pressure from project supervisors because the renovation work was behind schedule.

Authorities said the killings have raised concerns about workplace conflict and contractor oversight in public-sector projects. Local police units from Ao Nang, Krabi Provincial Investigation Division and Region 8 are coordinating to ensure all procedures are followed, with forensic teams analysing evidence collected at the scene. The Public Works office has been informed of the deaths of its two officers, prompting internal reviews of inspection protocols.

Daily News reported that Somphon has been handed over to investigators for formal charges and further questioning as police prepare the case for prosecution. Officers will submit forensic findings, witness accounts and the suspect’s statement to the public prosecutor once the investigation is complete. The injured official remains under medical care.
