Maybe Thailand is not for you

It isn't.

But I bet my bottom dollar I have been here longer than you and have paid more tax here than most locals.

Eric.

I came to work in Thailand in my 30's, getting paid $US, my employer pays my taxes in the countries I work.

You are going to lose your bottom dollar.

funny that.   they use whitening cream on their skin like it's going out of fashion!   Eric.

  • Interesting subject. Thai people I know like to say how much they paid for something. Where I come from its more like how cheap I bought something, how much I saved. Different culture, different

  • If you are low on cash, it becomes the most important thing in the world, anywhere in the world. If you have money, then you can start considering other things.   I don't know where you come

If you have money here, you live like a king and can literally do anything.

Reckon this post could be interesting if  a clear definition of "have money" was given.

Does it include only the filthy rich who use theBillion Baht as unit of measure?

Sorry - I don't buy the global warming propaganda.  I've been around since the early 1950s and I've experienced numerous hurricanes and typhoons during my life.  Some are very severe, some aren't.  I don't see "increasing severity" anywhere other than in the media who are spinning global warming propaganda faster than the fastest cyclone.

Plenty of statistical facts to show climate change is real. You dont see any glaciers getting bigger?

In more advanced societies they have something called universal healthcare.

Eric

I'm glad you mentioned that because in Thailand, you pay 30 Baht to have a full medical procedure with a National ID Card.

How much to have say, an appendix removed in the US? What about getting a heart condition treated over a year or 3?

And how long would you wait for a hip replacement in the UK or Australia?

In case you are wondering, if you are on a temp visa in Australia (like we are here), you pay the full price for medical - I'm just guessing but it would probably be about 10x more than I pay here.

So what was the point again?

What utter drivel.

I know of an elderly woman who lived out in the sticks and had cancer.

She died rather than receive treatment in some local, government run clinic..

Public Healthcare in Thailand is abysmal in the countryside, and it really isn't that great in the tourist hotspots either.

So what was your point again???

It is not the health care that is abysmal as you say. It is getting to the nearest hospital from the countryside village.

I've been to a hospital/clinic in the sticks before and it was nothing short of frightening.

Wrong medicines prescribed, doctors with a foul attitude and nurses who couldn't give a stuff about their patients.

Eric.

^ No one where I live complains about the local hospital.

^ then don't think it is all abysmal just because your local one is crap. Travel a bit further to a larger one. Gees!

Here in the village, they say if they send you from the local hospital to the district hospital, you are going to die. The fear of going to the hospital it is real, and when they first go, they get an injection, and bags of colourful pills with no explanation except when to take. That’s it. Placebo as treatment is essential also in Thailand to keep the Thais happy.

When they come to Norway, they are shocked when dr just tells them to take a Tylenol and go home with nothing after a visit.

Which are Tylenol/paracetamol.  Again, I haven't heard a word of complaint about the local hospital here.

Thais generally don't like to complain, especially at somewhere as prestigious as a hospital.

It isn't in their nature.

Again, it relates to saving face.

Another one, a bit different slant: my son's Thai mother in law (in Tak) was ill, she went to the local hospital, with no test or other checks Dr. (one one dr. at this small hosp.) insisted she had a 'leaking heart'. Family asked for a referral to a bigger hospital not far away. Local small hosp. dr. abused them 'how dare youo another hospital (I offered to pay for ambulance to get her to Chiang Mai to admit her to RAM hopital

A loud mouth nures (small hosp.) had been listening to family discussion, she told the small hosp. dr. about the plan for ambulance to CM / admit to RAM hosp.

Dr. responded that he would call the police. Local police snr tasked 22 cops to stay in the hosp. room, with instruction that the old lady was not to leave the room, never.

Family tried to find  way to get the old ady to Chiang Mai. She died at small Tak hospital with no treatment .

Family approached the Health ministry, they indicated tht th small hop. dr, at Tak had no authoty to hold the old lady.

A bit later later small hosp. dr. abused my DIL becuase moving the old lady to CM would have disrupted his personal money flow.

Eric.

Your data set is one person who by her own admission chose not to be treated?

Did you ever want to become a career statistician but had your dreams crushed?

My point is that Thailand is a developing country and has universal healthcare that millions of people rely on.

Did you think it should be as advanced as your country before you moved here and decided to complain about it after you moved?

Money does talk in Thailand. But it's definately not the holiday makers and tourists who are spending any more now.

Money talks everywhere, do not understand why some thins Thailand is worse. I bit different culture as most Asian countries still have some kind of exchange for a marriage, but seriously all depending on who you marry out of what reasons.

Money is essential in every culture for a better and more secure life
