Dong Nai Floods: Storms Cause Major Road Disruptions

Severe flooding swept through Dong Nai Province on Monday following heavy rainstorms, severely impacting the area and endangering residents. The downpour began at about 7 p.m., leading to water rushing from side alleys into National Highway 1, inundating a 500-meter stretch to over half the height of motorbike wheels. This caused numerous vehicles to stall, with fast-moving waters also sweeping away both motorbikes and pedestrians.

The sudden flooding resulted from thunderstorms that drenched the area with a rainfall of 23.5 mm, as reported by the Dong Nai Meteorological and Hydrological Center. Flooding was particularly concentrated in the districts of Long Binh, Tam Hiep, Ho Nai, and other areas bordering the urban landscape. The Tam Hiep underpass was also affected, exacerbating traffic disruptions along National Highway 1.

Local residents quickly responded to assist those in need, with many individuals attempting to traverse the floodwaters being knocked over by the strong currents. "The rain was heavy with thunder and lightning," noted Tan, a Long Binh resident, who observed people attempting to navigate or wait out the floodwaters on sidewalks. Many vehicles left stranded added to the chaos and congestion.

The ongoing situation has raised concerns regarding the area's vulnerability to such weather events, potentially calling for better infrastructure and flood management systems. While the immediate threat appears mitigated, considerations on enhanced drainage systems and public preparedness are anticipated to be topics of discussion among local authorities.

Looking forward, there is an expectation for continued rainfall in the area, which may lead to further flooding incidents unless addressed promptly. Residents are advised to exercise caution and pay close attention to weather advisories, ensuring safety and readiness for any developing situations, reported VN Express.

Key Takeaways

  • Dong Nai Province experienced severe flooding due to heavy rain.
