Police have arrested six men accused of breaking into a freight train container at Hat Yai Railway Station and stealing crates of beer. The arrests follow a joint operation by Provincial Police Region 9 and Hat Yai police, who launched a rapid investigation after the incident was reported. Officers say the theft caused significant disruption to cargo security in Songkhla province.

The case stems from an incident on 27 November at around 10:00, when a group of offenders forced open a container on a freight train parked at Hat Yai Railway Station. The container held part of a shipment comprising four containers carrying 7,560 boxes of beer belonging to a single brand, with total damages estimated at more than 4 million baht. Pol Lt Gen Piyawat Chalermsri, commander of Provincial Police Region 9, ordered an immediate joint inquiry involving Songkhla provincial police and Hat Yai officers.

Investigators later tracked down six suspects identified as Jaroon, Prasin, Mongkol, Warinthorn, Suchart and Piyapong Noo-daeng. Police also recovered 65 crates of beer believed to be part of the stolen goods. During questioning, all suspects confessed and disclosed that additional accomplices were involved, prompting further pursuit operations.

Thaitabloid reported that police have charged the detained suspects with “theft committed by two or more persons in an area affected by flooding, by damaging barriers, or receiving stolen property.” Officers said the theft underscores wider concerns about cargo safety along southern rail routes. Authorities have urged local businesses and residents to exercise heightened caution due to an uptick in property crimes during the current period.

Key Takeaways

• Police have arrested six suspects linked to the beer theft from a Hat Yai freight container.

• The stolen shipment involved four containers carrying 7,560 boxes of beer worth over 4 million baht.

• Investigators say more accomplices are being sought following the suspects’ confessions.

Looks like Chang - let them keep it

Looks like a couple of dozen more than 6 people helping out with the cleanup effort. Suspect anyone with a major headache as being involved.

How would you suggest that compares to other nationalities ?...  say British, or Koreans etc ?

Is it 'human nature' that 99% of people would be opportunistic thieves - and Thai's are no worse or better, or are you suggesting it just the Thai's that carry that crown ???
