A South African tourist, Arshaad Yousuph, played a crucial role in rescuing stranded residents when Nha Trang was hit by devastating floods on November 19, leaving streets under a meter of water. Despite communication challenges and power outages, Yousuph navigated through submerged areas to assist official rescue teams. His actions and those of the rescue teams have been widely praised on social media.

In mid-November, Nha Trang and Khanh Hoa Province experienced historic floods, resulting in significant destruction. Over 100 houses were destroyed, and economic losses exceeded VND4.1 trillion (approximately US$155.5 million). With roads impassable and communication disrupted, Yousuph decided to join local rescue efforts after seeing panicked calls for help on social media and hearing the distress of locals trapped in their homes.

Yousuph's determination saw him walking three kilometers through floodwaters to a temporary shelter in Tay Nha Trang Ward, where he relied on translation tools to communicate. He joined rescue teams to deliver essential supplies like food, water, and medicines to isolated areas, using boats and rafts. Despite feeling inadequate at times due to severe conditions hindering access to some areas, he persisted in his efforts.

Looking forward, relief efforts will continue in the region, focusing on restoring infrastructure and providing necessary aid to affected residents. The actions of volunteers and official teams, praised for their dedication, reflect the community's resilience in the face of disaster. Yousuph's involvement highlighted the impact of individual compassion in crisis situations, reported VN Express.

If living in a house in Thailand,  better to stock up an inflatable boat, lifejacket and generator and fuel. Just in case.

Before moving to Thailand I spent 6 months in Vietnam. I loved Nha Trang. The people were awesome, food was great and it was cheaper than Thailand by 40%. This was in 2011.

My thoughts go out to these lovely people.
